Matthias undertakes public policy related economic research and public advocacy work. His areas of research are international trade, European integration, fiscal policy and capital market policy, with a focus on business/economic sector and public policy research. He is a Director of Tutwa Europe and a Director and Senior Economist at the European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE), Brussels.
His previous experience includes a position as Coordinator of International Political Economy at the international cooperation division of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Berlin. He set up an Economics Consultancy, MatBauerEcon in 2010, with a focus on international business development, trade policy consulting and economic impact assessments. Previously, Matthias held positions at DekaBank, UBS, Mercedes-Benz China, and worked as a start-up and business development consultant.
Matthias studied business administration at the University of Hull, UK, and economics at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany. He received his Ph.D. after joining the Bundesbank graduate programme on the ‘Foundations of Global Financial Markets and Financial Stability’.
